why squarespace

The right platform for most small businesses.

Squarespace is my go-to platform for most small service businesses — and for good reason. It's genuinely intuitive, the hosting and security are handled in the background, and when it's designed properly it looks really good. You won't need to call me every time you want to update your prices or add a new photo.

I'll also be honest with you. If you're building a complex ecommerce store with hundreds of products, Shopify will serve you better.

If you need a highly bespoke design with custom interactions and a powerful CMS, Webflow is worth the extra investment. Squarespace sits in a sweet spot, and it's worth being clear on whether that sweet spot is yours before we start.

3

Design and build

No big reveal. You see it taking shape as we go, so nothing gets to the end and feels wrong.

5

Launch, handover and you’re in control

Once we're live the site is yours. I'll make sure you know how to manage it.

Questions you might have

How much does a Squarespace designer charge in the UK?

It varies, a lot. A UK-based freelancers like me typically charge £800–£2,500 depending on the size and complexity of the project. Agencies will go higher. What's worth paying for is someone who thinks about your visitors, not just the visual result, and who'll be there when something needs changing after launch.

Is Squarespace worth it for a small business?

For most service businesses, yes. It's well priced (around £13–£21/month for hosting), genuinely easy to manage yourself, and produces professional results when it's designed properly. Where it falls short is complex ecommerce, highly custom interactions, or content-heavy sites that need a serious CMS. For the majority of small businesses I work with, it works.

Is Squarespace good for SEO?

Better than it used to be. It handles the basics well — clean URLs, mobile responsiveness, SSL included, fast load times. Where Squarespace still lags behind Webflow and WordPress is in advanced SEO controls and schema markup (which affects rich results) unless on a more premium plan. For most small businesses, though, the fundamentals are solid enough to rank well if the content is right.

How long does a Squarespace build take?

A single-page site takes 2–4 weeks. A full multi-page site is 6–8 weeks. The timeline depends on how quickly content (text and photos) comes in, that's usually what slows things down, not the design itself.
